Aesthetic Fillings

The aesthetic filling material is composite. It can be given shape, hardened with halogen light and bound onto the tooth chemically. Today, the objective is to render teeth both visually and functionally satisfactory through dental treatments.  Therefore, it is aimed for fillings to be in the form of natural teeth with regard to their shape and color, the filling lines to be not obvious and the person to be not able to distinguish the filling from their own tooth. Although in previous years it was believed that metal fillings were more durable and functional, with the developing technology the material composition of aesthetic fillings was reinforced and it became a much more durable, aesthetic and healthy practice than metal fillings.

Why Should Aesthetic Fillings Be Preferred?

Although not certain, it is believed that the mercury inside amalgam fillings dissolve inside the mouth. These old fillings break over time but patients do not notice that. Therefore, cavities are formed. In 90% of the cases where patients request to have their fillings removed, a cavity is found beneath the filling. For this reason, we recommend replacing amalgam fillings with composite fillings with a bonding system or with porcelain inlay-onlays.
